Your body felt limp, you crying into Arthur’s arms as he petted your hair and whispered sweet nothings into your ear. After a few minutes, you finally calmed down and Arthur rolled onto the balls of his feet to cup your face with his hands.

“Love, I am very sorry I acted the way I did. I really don’t know what came of me,” he spoke softly.
You averted your eyes away from his as he stared at you intently. Your eyes were red from crying and all you wanted to do now was stare at the floor. Instead, they landed on your broken violin, the one your father gave you, the only tangible thing that you cherished in your life. But that is now gone. Arthur noticed you staring at the violin in sadness as he glanced at it as well. His emerald eyes went back to yours and he said, “(name), please look at me.”

You were slightly jolted out of your thoughts and switched your eyes onto his. You were too upset to be entranced by his eyes, as much of a beautiful colour as they were. You scowled as you stared back at him, his hands still on your face.
“If it makes you feel better, I’ll make sure to purchase another violin for you when we port.”
“It’s not the same,” you cut in. You stand up, looking down at him with hollow eyes. “It’ll never be.”
Arthur also stood up, looking down at you slightly. “Then tell me why,” he murmured. “It seemed that my behaviour reminded you of something, and I want you to tell me.” He then stuck his arms out on either side of your head and trapped you to a wall.
“I will not let you move until you start talking, savvy?”

You gave him a weird look and then sighed. “I’m not in the mood to talk here, Arthur,” you said.
Arthur tilted his head in confusion as he was hoping you would say something else to be clearer.
“I’d rather do it where I don’t have to be stared at by knives,” you finished.
“Ah,” he said as he put his arms down but put one around your shoulder. You shivered at his touch, feeling his hand touch your bare arm.
“Let’s discuss this in my quarters then,” Arthur said as he started to usher you towards the door. You lightly sniffed as Arthur pushed the door open, to hear a thumping noise followed by a few ‘ows.’
“What the bloody hell?” Arthur demanded as he saw Peter, Feliciano, and a few other crew members sprawled onto the floor, holding their heads in pain.

“Ah, wait! Please forgive us captain!” Feliciano got up and wailed. “You see, I was-a-late so I started to run here but then I heard crashing and screaming and then I got-a-scared and I started panicking and I didn’t know what to doooo!!!”
“You didn’t hurt (name) did you?” Peter demanded as he also got up and rubbed his head.
“I’m fine Peter,” you smile crookedly at him. Peter gazed at you, but he could tell you weren’t telling the entire truth.
“You did do something to her, brother! Why do you have to be mean all the time you wanker!” Peter babbled on as he started to smack his fists against Arthur’s chest.

“I am not a wanker! And why the bloody hell were you and the crew eavesdropping when they should be working?” Arthur yelled as he shot daggers at the crew members, including Feliciano, who ran away in the opposite direction immediately.
Arthur lightly pushed Peter away with his free hand and said, “(name) and I need to talk alone, so get moving. I am not pleased that you listened onto what went on in here. It is clearly none of your business.”
Peter pouted and crossed his arms in protest. “I was worried about (name), since I heard screaming and crying in there, unless you’re going to tell me that you scream and cry like a girl.”
Arthur sighed and cleared his throat, his grip on you getting a little bit tighter. “I will explain the situation later, right now, (name) and I need to get a move on,” he said as he started to push you past Peter.

“I’ve got my eyes on you, eyebrows!” Peter retorted, pouting again and slowly walking away.

You and Arthur went back to the captain’s quarters and you immediately plopped onto the bed, where your back was against the headboard and your knees were brought up to your chest. Arthur sat on the side of the bed, right next to you, where you could see his side profile.
“I know this might be difficult for you to talk about but I need a better understanding of you,” Arthur said to you as he glanced in your direction.

“It’s a long story,” you mutter, having no choice but to tell him.

“That’s fine. I’m not going anywhere.”

You sigh with a mix of defeat and frustration and begin to tell Arthur about your traumatic past. You told him everything, from the day Rosalina came to your life to the day your father bought you your wooden engraved violin to the day of your father’s death and Rosalina’s suicide. You looked at Arthur from time to time, seeing him knot his large eyebrows in surprise and nodding his head as if he was hanging onto every word you said. You could tell he was listening intently, not interrupting you at all. You choked on some parts but you continued on with your story until you finished. Once you were done, there was a short silence between you two until Arthur finally spoke up.

“So, I guess back in the kitchen I reminded you of this ‘Rosalina’ woman. I really didn’t mean to scare you that much, (name), I’m really sorry. It must have been so hard to imagine what you had gone through.”

“Don’t pity me,” you say to him. “I don’t want to be pitied. It makes me feel weak, even though I just cried like a baby in front of you moments ago.”

“It’s fine to cry (name), I have you know you’re a very strong lass with a really good arm,” Arthur chuckled at the last part as he rubs his chin with his hand.

Oh yeah, you forgot you punched him in the face.

“You’re just saying that to make me feel better,” you mutter back, staring at your knees.

“No, I’m serious. I have never met anyone like you, with such inner strength and spunk. You don’t give up easily and that’s what I like about you.”
You raise an eyebrow and look back at Arthur to see him slightly blushing as he leans back on his hands and looks at you.

“You also don’t put up with rubbish, and you’re very smart too,” he smirks at you.

“I won’t argue with the smart part,” you manage to chuckle. “But the reason I act the way I do is because of my past. I had to grow up quicker,” you say as you rub a hand through your (h/l), (h/c) hair.

“There is just something I don’t get,” Arthur scowls as he puts a finger over his lips. “How does that potty-mouth Prussian get involved in your life? You seem to care for him yet you never mentioned him from what you were telling me earlier.”

“Oh,” you say as you raise your eyebrows, forgetting to tell Arthur about Gilbert.

“Well, Gilbert and I aren’t actually siblings, but I know I said that already. We were actually childhood friends and he would come over my house a lot and my father would teach us both how to sword fight. After my father was killed and Rosalina committed suicide, the first thing I did was run to Gilbert’s home out of pure panic. I was losing a lot of blood when Rosalina sliced me with the knife so by the time Gilbert opened the door, I fainted. While I was unconscious, he took care of my wound and must have gone to my house to see what happened. He saw the scene with his own eyes and probably went into town where he got a hold of the sheriff. I don’t really remember what happened after that but I know I never went to my house again. Gilbert kindly went my house to get my violin since he knew how much it meant to me. I never knew if Gilbert’s parents were still around, but he ended up taking me in to live with him after the incident. The reason why I call him my brother is because he always acted like a sibling to me, and I guess it just stuck. Of course we would sometimes fight and he has yet to beat me a sword fighting,” you slightly smile.

“I realize you must miss him,” Arthur gazed at you again.

“I do,” you say sadly. “But it’s not that bad. Since he’s a few years older than I am, he tends to travel from time to time, claiming he’s a sailor or a merchant of some sort. I never really believe him since he returns in just a couple of days.”

“Interesting you say that now...” Arthur trails off as his green eyes gleam of concentration.

“What?” you say.

“Nothing,” he replies quickly.

There was another short silence until you cut in.

“But are you happy now?” you say to Arthur. “You wanted to know everything about me, so I told you everything.”

“Well, I don’t think you told me everything,” Arthur says sarcastically as he turns his torso to you and leans forward. “You forgot to mention the part where you fancy me,” he smirks.

Your eyes widen as you could feel your face heating up.
As a reaction, you take a pillow next to you and throw it full force at Arthur’s face.
